The Pig and Pastry, the best breakfast in York, UK
Why The Pig and Pastry is York’s Best Spot for an Unforgettable Breakfast
The Pig and Pastry is our favourite place for breakfast, brunch and lunch.
My top reason for liking it is because it's a two-minute walk from my house — and that was genuinely one of the reasons on the ‘shall we buy this house?’ list. I understand this may not be a selling point for you unless you live at my house, and if you did I'm pretty sure I would have noticed by now.
Anyway back to The Pig. It's a small, family-run local café on the famous Bishy Road and has an arty, homely, laid-back feel with lots of very funny and cringy dad jokes thanks to Steve — check out their social media to see what I mean.
On a sunny York day there is no better place to enjoy some fab food and watch the world go by than from their front courtyard. However, be warned; they get very busy, especially during peak times and the weekend, so you may need to queue — but it's well worth the wait and if you genuinely can’t hang around they also do take takeaways.

What we love to eat there
The Full English is amazing — best in York
All the Benedicts are good — especially the Cumberland one
All the cakes
The breakfast burger — its my go-to breakfast
The flat white — I've had a flat white across the world and so far this is the best
The sourdough toast with lots of marmalade
