New Look, Same Great Cause at York’s St Leonard’s Hospice Shop
Check out their new Glow-Up as they re-open today
If you love a rummage, a bargain, and a good cause (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?), then you’ll want to swing by St Leonard’s Hospice’s Colliergate shop, which has just reopened today (Friday 13 June) with a brand-new look and a big sustainable heart.
A Charity Shop, But Make It Chic
Gone are the squeaky hangers and flickering strip lights – the Colliergate shop has had a full-on makeover. We’re talking modern fixtures, digital screens, and a fresh layout that wouldn’t look out of place in a fancy high street boutique (but with much better prices).
It’s the first of St Leonard’s city centre stores to get this glow-up, and it’s all part of their mission to rethink what a charity shop can look and feel like. Think less ‘granny’s attic’, more ‘pre-loved but polished’.
Denim With a Conscience
One of the standout features? A brand-new dedicated denim section. Why? Because denim is iconic, everyone wears it, and it takes a ridiculous amount of water to make. So why not buy it second-hand, save the planet a bit, and still look great doing it?
More Than Just a Shop
Here’s the brilliant bit: just this one shop helps raise £100,000 a year for the hospice – funding the amazing care St Leonard’s provides to people with life-limiting illnesses.
Add in a team of 20+ volunteers and 3 staff members, and you’ve got a community-powered shop that’s doing real good, one vintage jacket and dog-eared book at a time.
Not to mention, across all their stores (plus online), St Leonard’s is helping to keep a whopping 99,268kg of CO₂ emissions out of the atmosphere and 7,364kg of items from landfill every single week. Yes, weekly.
When to Pop In
The Colliergate shop is now open:
Monday to Saturday, 9am–4pm
Drop in, drop off some donations, and maybe walk out with a new outfit and a bit of a glow-yourself-up feeling too.
40 Years of Care
This year marks 40 years of St Leonard’s Hospice providing compassionate care to people across York and North Yorkshire. So whether you’re clearing out your wardrobe, looking for a gem, or just want to support a brilliant local cause, this revamped little shop is a great place to start.
