Fabrication to move into York shop that’s been empty for five years
Social Enterprise that stocks things made by local artists is moving into Stonegate.
Alright, listen up! I love a good independent shop in York, and it seems things are shaking up a bit on Stonegate. After what feels like forever, that old Cath Kidston shop that's been gathering dust for five years is finally getting a new lease of life. And it’s not going to be just any old shop; it’s the social enterprise, Fabrication, who are moving in. Yes, the very same Fabrication that’s currently down the road on Coney Street.
So, what is Fabrication?
Well, let me tell you, it's not your average high street store. It's a place that supports local artists and makers in York and Leeds. They let these talented folk contribute to the rent and work in the shop, and in return, they get help with business development, mentoring, and, most importantly, sales. It's a win-win, really – we get unique, locally-made stuff, and the artists get a leg up.
What Treasures Can You Find?
Fabrication is like a treasure chest of unique items. Here's a sneak peek at what they offer:
Paintings and other wall art - perfect for jazzing up the walls of my holiday homes (or my own place, if I'm honest).
Jewellery - because my wife has plenty, but can always use more.
Candles and Wax Melts - to make my house smell nicer than the dog.
Ornaments and Homeware - for when you want something that no one else will have.
Craft Workshops and Classes - so I can finally learn to make something myself (maybe a new coffee table).
Basically, if you're looking for something a bit different and want to support local talent, then you need to get yourself to Fabrication.
A Bit More Space to Explore
The move to the old Cath Kidston spot means Fabrication will have space for a gallery area. That means even more goodies to browse, which can only be a good thing, right? Apparently, preparations for the new location are "well underway", so it should be open soon. (I’m keeping an eye on their social media).
Why I'm Excited
I'm always up for supporting local businesses and getting something unique. With Fabrication moving into Stonegate, there'll be even more cool things to discover. (plus more things for me to buy, of course!) It’s also nice to see something new coming to this shop in Stonegate after it has been empty for such a long time. So, if you’re looking for a place to pick up some unusual gifts, home décor, or just want a browse then Fabrication is the place to be.
